About Hartlebury Common

The heathland here sprawls across 400 acres of gently undulating ground just outside Stourport-on-Severn, and it's the real deal - not manicured, not overthought, just proper Worcestershire countryside that's been left to do its thing. You get a mix of open heath, woodland, and scrub that shifts with the seasons. Spring brings gorse and bilberry flowers. Summer turns it gold and purple. Autumn's when the place really shows off, with bracken burning orange-red against dark pines.

Walkers will get the most from it. There are decent paths looping through the reserve, ranging from short potter-rounds to longer treks that'll take a couple of hours. It's not dramatic scenery - no peaks, no grand vistas - but there's something absorbing about walking through proper heathland. You'll spot butterflies, adders if you're lucky (and careful), and the occasional deer. Birdwatchers come for the breeding warblers and woodpeckers.

It's free and there are no formal opening hours that we know of, so you can rock up when you fancy. Being right next to Lincomb Lock Caravan Park and Walshes Farm makes it an obvious pairing if you're based nearby for a caravan holiday. You're looking at an hour to ninety minutes minimum to do it justice, though you can duck in for a quick thirty-minute loop if you're short on time.

One thing: it's not a destination in itself. If you're passing through or staying local, absolutely worth an hour. If you're planning a day trip specifically for this, you'll want to combine it with Stourport's riverside walks or the Severn Valley Railway.
