Haverfordwest Racecourse Park

The racecourse sits on the outskirts of Haverfordwest, a sprawling green space that feels more community park than sporting venue these days. Walking the perimeter, you get decent views across Pembrokeshire countryside - the kind of rolling green that makes you remember why you drove west in the first place. The track itself is still visible, though it's been years since horses thundered round it regularly. These days it's mainly a spot for locals to walk the dog, let kids burn off energy on the open ground, or sit on a bench and watch the light change across the fields.

It's free to wander around, which is the only way it works really. Don't expect manicured gardens or formal attractions. What you get is space - proper space - which counts for something when you're camping nearby. The Three Fields Campsite and Creampots are both within spitting distance, as is Stargaze if you fancy something fancier. If you're staying at any of the sites dotted around Pembrokeshire - Broad Haven, Little Haven, or pushing towards the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park itself - this is a decent leg-stretch option on the way into town rather than a reason to plan your entire day around.

Walkers will appreciate it more than anyone else. Families with very small kids might find an hour enough before heading elsewhere. History buffs will get the bones of what was once a proper racing venue, but there's not much interpretation on the ground to lean on. Worth knowing about if you're in Haverfordwest, but not worth the detour from the coast.
