Hawkelts Coppice

Ancient oaks and hornbeams create a proper woodland cathedral at this little-known coppice just outside Malvern. The paths wind through stands of traditional English trees that have been managed for centuries, creating those lovely dappled light patterns that photographers love. It's the sort of place where you might spot a red kite circling overhead or hear the distant drumming of a woodpecker.

Families with young children will find it manageable - the terrain isn't too demanding and there's plenty of space for little ones to explore safely. Dog walkers clearly know about this spot, judging by the well-worn tracks that loop through the woodland. The peace and quiet make it a good antidote to busier tourist spots around the Malvern area.

Allow about an hour for a proper wander, though you could easily spend longer if you're into birdwatching or just fancy a proper sit-down on one of the fallen logs. Spring brings bluebells and wild garlic, while autumn delivers that classic crunch underfoot. It's free to roam, as far as I could tell, and there's roadside parking nearby. Worth combining with a visit to the Malvern Hills themselves if you're staying at one of the holiday parks like Swallowfields Retreat or the Malvern Hills Caravan site.
