Hawker Hunter jet

Standing proud on a roundabout just outside Woolacombe, this decommissioned Hawker Hunter fighter jet makes for a proper surprise on the coastal approach. The aircraft served with the Royal Air Force before finding its final resting place as a rather dramatic traffic island centrepiece.

Kids absolutely love spotting it from the car window - there's something brilliantly British about having a Cold War fighter jet directing traffic flow. Aviation enthusiasts will appreciate the Hunter's sleek lines and historical significance, though you can only admire it from the roadside. It's more of a quick photo stop than a full attraction.

The jet works well as a landmark when you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Hidden Valley or Ruda Holiday Park. Perfect for getting your bearings when heading to Woolacombe's famous beaches or exploring the North Devon coast. Photography is best in the morning light when the sun catches the aircraft's silver finish.
