Hawksmoor Coppice

A proper woodland walk on the doorstep of Shrewsbury, Hawksmoor Coppice is the kind of place locals know and visitors often miss. It's ancient woodland - the sort where you can lose an hour just wandering between the trees without any fuss or facilities to distract you. The paths are decent enough underfoot, winding through mixed broadleaf forest with enough shade to make a summer afternoon genuinely pleasant. You won't find manicured trails or interpretation boards here. It's simply trees, quiet, and whatever wildlife you're lucky enough to spot.

Walkers get the most from it - this isn't a destination attraction with a café and gift shop, it's a proper ramble. Families with young kids might find it a bit dull after 45 minutes unless they're the foraging type, but older children who can entertain themselves outdoors will be fine. The woodland floor is soft and the paths are manageable for most ages.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Beaconsfield is barely half a mile away, making this ideal for a morning or late-afternoon stretch of the legs - it's absolutely worth the five-minute drive. It slots perfectly into a Shropshire break where you're mixing bigger attractions with quieter moments. Allow an hour for a proper wander, longer if you're the type to actually sit and listen.
