Heathfield Coppice

The woodland at Heathfield Coppice feels properly restorative - all ancient oaks and dense understory, the kind of place where you lose the sound of traffic within fifty metres of the car park. It's genuine working woodland rather than a manicured tourist trail, which means the paths can be muddy and root-strewn, but that's rather the point.

You're looking at a solid hour's walk through mixed woodland if you want to see the whole thing, though you can dip in for twenty minutes if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Brook House Woods or The Rookery Woods. There's no visitor centre, no cafés, no admission fees that we can trace - it's just woodland, free to explore. Bring proper boots if it's been wet; the ground holds water something fierce.

Families with older kids will get more from this than toddlers. There's no formal playground or easy loop - it's proper walking through actual forest. Birdwatchers might spot something decent in spring migration season. History buffs won't find much interpretation, so don't expect signage about the coppicing legacy, though the management tells you this place has been worked for centuries.

From Worcester it's fifteen minutes' drive, making it a decent morning or afternoon addition to a park-based holiday rather than a destination on its own. The remoteness is actually its strength - you're genuinely away from things here, which beats a lot of the honeypot forests.
