Henstridge Pump Track

Henstridge Pump Track sits just outside Sturminster Newton and pulls in a fairly specific crowd - BMX riders and mountain bikers mostly. It's a purpose-built dirt circuit where you'll see riders of all levels working through bermed corners and jumps, practicing tricks on compact terrain that doesn't eat up your whole afternoon. If you're into cycling, it's worth a look. If you're hoping for traditional nature reserve walks through wildflower meadows, this isn't it.

The track itself is free to use, though you'll want to bring your own bike unless you're just spectating. Allow an hour or so if you're riding, twenty minutes if you're watching. Kids who can already ride without stabilisers tend to get proper into it - the varied difficulty means younger riders can stick to flatter sections while older ones have a crack at the bigger features. Fair warning though: it's not a casual stroll spot for grandparents.

Timing-wise, early mornings and weekday evenings tend to be quieter if you're after a calmer session. Weekends draw more of a crowd. The location makes it a reasonable pit stop if you're based at Starlight Glamping (three miles away) or Sunnyhill Campsite further out, though you'd probably combine it with other attractions in the area rather than making the trip just for this. Dorset's got plenty of actual walking reserves nearby if you need something less technical.
