Hollowell Copse

The woodland floor at Hollowell Copse is soft underfoot, carpeted in years of leaf litter and moss. It's proper forest walking - the kind where you lose track of time among the beech and oak, with just the sound of your boots and the occasional bird call for company. The trees are mature and substantial, creating that cathedral-like calm that dense woodland always manages.

This is a straightforward spot for a woodland wander near Petersfield, nothing flashy, no visitor centre or marked loops that I'm aware of. Just trees, footpaths, and the chance to clear your head. It works brilliantly if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Adhurst Yurts is only three miles away and makes an easy morning outing, or you could combine it with a longer walk to nearby trails in the area.

Historians and tree enthusiasts will find it worth the detour. Kids will manage an hour or so before asking when they can go back for cake, though if yours are the type who like building dens in fallen branches, they could happily lose half a day here. The real value is as a quiet escape rather than a destination unto itself.

Access and facilities are basic - go expecting woodland, not amenities. It's the sort of place where you turn up, park sensibly, and walk. Free to access, as far as I can tell. Best on a dry day when the paths aren't boggy. Time your visit for autumn if you want the light filtering through russet leaves, or early spring when the woodland floor is alive with new growth.
