Holly Brow

Walk into Holly Brow and you're immediately struck by how quiet it is. This small forest tucked away near Petersfield feels utterly removed from the road, even though you're barely a few miles from town. The woodland is dense enough that you lose sight of everything beyond the treeline within minutes.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick visit. There's no obvious trail system to speak of, which means you're essentially picking your own route through the trees. The ground is soft with leaf litter, and in autumn the whole place turns a proper golden colour. Families with older kids will enjoy letting them loose to explore, though younger ones might find the lack of facilities and defined paths a bit limiting.

The forest works brilliantly as a half-day addition to a stay at nearby Adhurst Yurts. If you're after something more rugged than a woodland stroll, Adhurst's outdoor skills courses would pair nicely with time spent exploring the forest. Allow two or three hours to really take your time; rushing defeats the purpose entirely.

There's nothing flashy about Holly Brow. No car parks, no visitor centres, no ice cream van. Just trees, quiet, and space to think. That's exactly why it's worth the trip from Petersfield on a clear morning.
