Holmfirth Methodist Church

The Methodist Church sits right in the heart of Holmfirth, a weaving town in the South Yorkshire valleys that's famous for being the filming location of Last of the Summer Wine. It's one of those solid Victorian buildings that tells you something about what mattered to local people back then - community, faith, and a bit of proper craftsmanship.

Unless you're specifically interested in Methodist architecture or local history, it's more of a passing glance than a destination in itself. The church is functional rather than grand, though there's something honest about that. If you're walking around Holmfirth's town centre - which has genuine character and some decent independent shops - you'll naturally encounter it. The town itself is the real draw: steep streets, the River Holme running through, genuine Pennine grit.

For a church holiday, Holmfirth works best as a base. The surrounding countryside is proper walking territory, and there are several camping options within a few miles - Whitegate Leisure is closest at just two miles away if you're after somewhere to stay. Thurlmoor Farm and The Holiday Pod are also nearby if you want something different.

The Methodist Church is worth five minutes if you're in town, but don't make it a reason to visit Holmfirth. Come for the walks, the valley views, and the settled character of the place. The church will be there when you pass by.
