The Church of the Holy Trinity sits tucked away in West Lulworth, a small village that most visitors drive straight through on their way to Durdle Door. It's worth stopping for though - this 12th-century church is genuinely worth twenty minutes of your time if you're camping nearby at Durdle Door Holiday Park.

Inside, the stone walls and timber roof beams tell the story of nearly nine centuries of parish life. The chancel is the oldest bit, dating back to around 1190, and you can feel the age of it. There's a peculiar sense of stillness in here, especially on weekday afternoons when barely anyone else is around. The stained glass is modest rather than showy, which somehow makes it more affecting.

It's free to visit - you'll usually find the door unlocked during daylight hours, though exact opening times aren't published anywhere useful. Go in the morning if you can, when the light streams through the south-facing windows properly.
