You get proper forest - oak and beech mostly - without the crowds that plague the New Forest further south. The walking's straightforward enough: paths wind through the trees in a way that feels genuinely peaceful rather than engineered for Instagram. Allow an hour if you're moving slowly, forty minutes if you know what you're doing.

This works best for families with younger kids who need to run off energy without getting lost, or for anyone wanting a quick woodland fix between other Hampshire activities. The trees are tall enough to feel like proper forest, but the canopy isn't so dense it turns gloomy. Locals seem to use it regularly, which tells you it's reliable rather than spectacular.

If you're staying at Cedar Valley - about three miles away and a solid 4.8-star spot - Home Copse makes an easy morning before heading elsewhere. Similarly handy if you're based at Woodlands Camping further out. The real value here is proximity and simplicity. No admission fees to faff about with, no visitor centre, just trees and paths. It's the sort of place that does one thing well rather than trying to be all things. Petersfield itself has decent shops and cafes for a post-walk coffee, which rounds the visit out nicely.
