Hope Coppice

You'll find yourself in proper mixed woodland here, with a decent mix of oak, birch and conifers that make for a pleasant walk at any time of year. Hope Coppice sits just outside Shrewsbury and doesn't demand much - an hour or so will see you round the main paths without rushing.

It's the sort of place that works well if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Sunrise Pods and fancy stretching your legs without disappearing for the whole afternoon. Families with younger kids will appreciate the woodland setting without needing to commit to a full day out, though there's nothing particularly dramatic to hold attention if they're the type who demand activities.

Walkers will find it peaceful enough, though it's not going to set your heart racing - this is gentle countryside rather than dramatic terrain. The coppiced woodland gives it some character, and in spring it can be quite nice with bluebells and new growth. Come autumn and the light through the trees is worth the visit alone.

Bring wellies if it's been wet - the ground can get boggy in places. There's no visitor facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. If you're based at Sunrise Pods, it's close enough for a morning wander before heading elsewhere for lunch. Don't expect signs pointing you everywhere - it's fairly low-key, which some will love and others will find a bit underwhelming.
