The house that served as Howard McBride's home in Last of the Summer Wine sits quietly in Holmfirth, a town that's become something of a pilgrimage site for fans of the long-running sitcom. It's the actual building where scenes were filmed, not a replica or visitor centre - just a real residential property that happens to be famous. You can see it from the street, which is really what most visitors do. Walk around the town centre and you'll spot it easily enough; locals are used to people stopping to take photos.

Fans of the show will obviously get the most from this. If you've never watched it, it's just a pleasant old Yorkshire building in a lovely market town. The appeal is pure nostalgia and that slightly odd thrill of standing where television history happened. There's no entrance fee, no official tour - you're simply looking at someone's house from outside. Spend five minutes here, take your picture, and move on.

Holmfirth itself is well worth a proper wander. The town has kept its character and there are decent pubs and cafes about. Combine it with walks in the surrounding Pennines and you've got a decent little break. The Last of the Summer Wine trail has become a thing; might as well include it if you're in the neighbourhood.
