Hunter's Hill

The walk up Hunter's Hill rewards you with proper views across Northumberland's rolling terrain, especially on clear days when you can see right across the valleys towards the North Tyne. It's a modest peak rather than a dramatic climb, which makes it accessible without being a doddle.

From Stocksfield, you're looking at a decent ramble to get here - nothing too arduous, but you'll want comfortable boots and maybe an hour or so to take it properly. The summit itself is straightforward enough, and on a decent day the vista stretches far enough to feel like you've actually earned the elevation gain. Walkers and serious hikers will get the most from this one; it's less about a single dramatic viewpoint and more about the walk itself and what opens up as you climb.

If you're camping at Valley View, which is only three and a half miles away, this makes a cracking addition to a day's walking. The site itself has solid reviews, so you could base yourself there and tackle Hunter's Hill as part of a wider exploration of the area. East Farm Glamping sits a bit further out but works too if you're after a broader Northumberland base.

Timing-wise, go early if you can - the light's better and you'll have the place quieter. Free to visit, obviously, since it's a peak. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you're not rushing, longer if you want to sit at the top and actually look around.
