Hutcheson's Monument

A granite obelisk rising from the hillside near Oban marks where George Hutcheson met his end in 1746. It's a sobering spot - the monument commemorates a local man who was shot during the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising, and it sits quietly on the landscape as a reminder of how turbulent these glens once were.

The walk up isn't strenuous, though you'll want proper footwear if the ground's wet. Once you reach it, the views back towards Oban and Loch Etive are genuinely worth the effort.
