The Irrigation Lagoon sits just outside Boston, a sprawling expanse of water that serves the Fens' agricultural needs but has quietly become a decent spot for a walk and a bit of birdwatching. It's not going to blow your mind with dramatic scenery - this is flat Lincolnshire, after all - but there's something oddly compelling about the place. The water's surprisingly clean, and if you time it right, you'll spot herons, cormorants, and various waterfowl doing their thing along the banks.

The main appeal here is straightforward: a proper circular walk with minimal crowds. Bring binoculars if you're into birds, and expect to spend forty minutes to an hour pottering about. It's free to access, which helps, and the walking is entirely flat - no dramatic climbs to complain about. Families with young kids will manage it fine, though frankly, there's not much to keep them entertained beyond "look, a duck."

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby sites - Long Acres, Waites Farm, or Grange Farm are all within five or six miles - this works as a pleasant morning outing before heading into Boston proper or exploring the Fens elsewhere. It's the sort of place that rewards a slow approach: grab a coffee, walk the loop, watch the water. Don't expect it to be a day's entertainment, but as part of a broader Lincolnshire holiday, it pulls its weight.
