Standing stones don't come much more atmospheric than this Bronze Age monument perched on the clifftops near Gorran Haven. The weathered granite megaliths have been keeping watch over Veryan Bay for over 3,000 years, and you can see why our ancestors chose this spot - the coastal views are absolutely cracking.

History buffs will love the mystery surrounding these ancient stones. Nobody's quite sure what they were used for, though theories range from astronomical observations to ritual ceremonies. What's certain is that they've survived everything Cornwall's wild weather could throw at them.

The walk from Gorran Haven takes about twenty minutes along well-marked coastal paths, though it's a bit of a climb. Worth every step, mind you. Kids might lose interest quickly unless they're properly into prehistory, but adults who appreciate a good bit of ancient mystery will find it well worth the detour.

Timing matters here. Come early morning or late afternoon when the light catches the stones just right, and you'll understand why this place has captivated visitors for generations. The site appears to be freely accessible year-round, though do check locally as access can sometimes be restricted during nesting season.
