Art galleries in seaside towns can go either way - either they're stuffed with overpriced seagull paintings or they're genuinely worth an hour of your time. Karensa Art, just outside Padstow, falls firmly in the latter camp. It's a working studio and gallery space where you can actually see artists at their easels rather than just gawk at finished pieces behind glass. The work spans painting, sculpture, and mixed media - mostly contemporary stuff with a strong local flavour, which means plenty of Cornish coastal scenes but nothing derivative about them.

What makes it different is the approach. You're not herded through a polished white-cube experience. There's a lived-in quality to the space, and the artists themselves are often around to chat if you're into that sort of thing. It works brilliantly for adults who actually care about art, but kids will get restless after twenty minutes unless they're genuinely keen. If you're staying at Dennis Cove Campsite just down the road, it's an easy detour on your way into Padstow proper.

Allow an hour if you want to properly look around and maybe chat with someone. It's worth fitting into a wider Padstow morning - the town itself has enough charm to justify a longer visit.
