Keenan Park

The reserve sits just outside Carlisle and it's proper woodland walking territory - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. Keenan Park is a straightforward nature reserve with paths winding through trees and open grassland, decent for an hour or two if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like Green Acres or Englethwaite Hall.

It's not going to blow your mind with views or rare birds, but that's rather the point. Walkers will appreciate the quiet, and families after a gentle stretch will find it works well enough. The paths are manageable - no scrambling or technical bits - so it's fine for kids who don't need constant novelty.

Carlisle itself is close by if you need supplies or a proper coffee afterwards. If you're camped at Eden Valley Glamping or one of the other sites nearby, this slots in nicely as a morning outing without eating into your day. Don't expect an afternoon here unless you're really keen on spotting wildlife or bringing a notebook. The real value is having it on your doorstep when you're based in the area rather than planning a special trip just for this spot. It does what it says - gives you some green space and fresh air - but there's no need to oversell it.
