Kendrick's Cave Upper East

Ice Age hunters once sheltered in this limestone cave perched high above Llandudno Bay, leaving behind stone tools and mammoth bones that made it one of Wales' most important prehistoric sites. The cave sits dramatically on the cliff face near the Great Orme, accessible via a steep coastal path that's definitely not buggy-friendly.

Archaeology buffs will be thrilled by the significance - this is where evidence of Britain's earliest human inhabitants was discovered. The cave itself is quite small, more of a rocky shelter really, but the setting is spectacular. Standing at the entrance, you get sweeping views across to Anglesey and down the Conwy coastline.

Families with older children who don't mind a proper hike will enjoy the adventure, though little ones might struggle with the rocky terrain. The walk takes about 20 minutes each way from the Great Orme summit, longer if you're coming up from Llandudno town.

It pairs brilliantly with a stay at nearby holiday parks like Hafan y Gogarth or the sites around Conwy. Most visitors combine it with the Great Orme tramway or cable car - make a full day of exploring this fascinating headland. Just bring decent walking boots and don't attempt it in wet weather when the limestone becomes treacherous.
