Kernow Escape

Kernow Escape sits just outside Truro, and it's one of those attractions that divides opinion sharply. On paper, an escape room experience themed around Cornish culture sounds brilliant - the kind of thing that could easily disappoint with twee clichés and plastic props.

What you actually get is a series of puzzles and challenges themed around Cornish heritage, mythology, and local history. The rooms are designed to tell a story as you work through them, which means you're not just solving riddles for the sake of it. Groups work together to unlock clues, crack codes, and (hopefully) escape within the time limit. It's the sort of thing that works best with a small group of friends or family members who genuinely enjoy problem-solving rather than those just after a novelty experience.

Honestly, escape rooms live or die by their execution, and this one seems to take its theme seriously rather than treating Cornish culture as set dressing. Budget two hours or so, including the pre-game briefing and the debrief after.

It's worth combining with a stay at Tresyjo Glamping near Penhallow Barn, which sits about six miles away - gives you a proper Cornish base without being far from Truro's amenities. The escape room works well as an indoor activity when the weather turns, which in Cornwall it regularly does. Not essential to a holiday, but if your group enjoys puzzles, it's worth booking ahead.
