King Edward 1st Statue

The statue of King Edward I stands in Wigton town centre - a solid bronze figure on horseback that's been watching over the market town since Victorian times. It's the sort of thing you might walk past without thinking twice about, but if you stop for a minute, it's actually rather striking. Edward's seated on his mount with that imperial bearing you'd expect, and the craftsmanship is decent enough to repay closer inspection.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate the connection - this was border country, and Edward I was the man who shaped much of northern England's relationship with Scotland. The statue's a proper reminder of that medieval power play. That said, it's not a massive tourist draw.
