Kingsland Copse

Kingsland Copse is a proper woodland walk just outside Petersfield, the sort of place that doesn't shout about itself but rewards anyone who bothers to find it. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter and moss, the canopy closes in overhead, and you genuinely feel like you've stepped away from things - which, given how close it is to town, feels like a small miracle.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination in itself - you're not looking at dramatic vistas or rare wildlife - but it's exactly what you want when you need an hour or two under the trees. The paths wind through mature woodland with enough variation to keep things interesting without requiring proper navigation skills. Families with younger children should be fine, though it's the kind of place adults enjoy more than kids who might get bored without a specific mission.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which is rather the point. Admission appears to be free, and there's no obvious time restriction, so you can slip in whenever you fancy. Morning visits tend to be quieter, especially midweek.

If you're camping at Cedar Valley just a mile away, this becomes your go-to spot for stretching your legs without driving anywhere. Woodlands Camping, three miles up the road, also has decent access. It's not dramatic enough to plan a trip around, but it's absolutely the sort of woodland to explore if you're basing yourself in the area for a long weekend. The kind of place that makes a holiday feel less scripted.
