Kingswood Brake

Kingswood Brake is a proper woodland walk just outside Chipping Norton, the sort of place where you can lose an hour without realising it. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter and moss, with a decent network of paths threading through old beech and oak. It's not dramatic - no waterfalls or clifftop vistas - but that's rather the point. This is quiet, undisturbed woodland where you might spot deer if you're lucky and the light's right through the canopy.

The main appeal is straightforward: it's a genuine escape. Dog walkers love it, and families with primary-age kids will find enough space to let them run ahead without losing them entirely. Serious hikers might feel it's a bit tame for a dedicated outing, but as a gentle morning constitutional between other Oxfordshire activities, it works well. Allow an hour for a comfortable circuit, more if you're the type to stop and listen.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that we can find, so bring a packed lunch if you want one. The woodland is accessible year-round, though autumn's when the footfall feels worth it - the colour's decent and the place stays wonderfully quiet.
