A working farm just outside Lockerbie where you can actually get your hands dirty rather than just gawk from a distance. Kirkwood runs proper farm experiences - think mucking out, bottle-feeding lambs, helping with harvesting depending on the season. It's the sort of place where kids genuinely learn something instead of staring at screens, though adults often find themselves equally engaged once they're knee-deep in it.

The appeal here is straightforward: you're not paying to walk around a theme park version of farming. You're on an actual, functioning farm doing real work. That means it can be mucky, occasionally smelly, and absolutely nothing like the sanitised versions you get elsewhere. Families with younger children tend to get the most from it, particularly those willing to embrace the chaos. Teenagers who think they're too cool for farms sometimes surprise themselves.
