About Knock Hill

The walk up Knock Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park near St Andrews, and it's genuinely worth the leg work. You're looking at 354 metres of modest Scottish hill - nothing that'll leave you gasping, but enough to feel like you've properly earned the view when you reach the top.

From the summit you get proper panoramic stuff: the Firth of Tay stretching out below, the Kingdom of Fife rolling away in every direction, and on a clear day you can clock the Forth Bridge in the distance. The path itself is well-trodden and straightforward, though it does get a bit muddy after rain so decent shoes matter.

It's excellent for families who don't want a full day's walking commitment, and anyone based at Meadow View Glamping or Larick Campsite nearby will find it a natural afternoon outing. History buffs might appreciate the Bronze Age cairn at the summit - not dramatically marked, but it's there if you know to look for it. The whole thing works perfectly as a warm-up walk before tackling some of Fife's longer routes, or as a standalone thing if you're after twenty minutes of fresh air and views.

Get there early on weekends in summer or you'll be sharing the summit with half of St Andrews. Winter mornings are quieter and often clearer. Free to access, and the nearby caravan parks make it ideal for a working-in-some-exercise day during a longer stay.
