Lady's Coppice

Lady's Coppice is a proper woodland walk just outside Trowbridge, the sort of place where you can disappear into the trees for an hour and forget you're still in Wiltshire. It's not vast - don't expect Sherwood Forest - but it's genuine working woodland with the feel of somewhere locals actually use rather than somewhere that's been polished up for visitors.

The main appeal is straightforward: paths wind through established trees, light filters through the canopy, and if you're lucky you'll spot woodland birds and spot the occasional deer. In spring the bluebells are decent, though nothing that will stop you in your tracks. Summer offers proper shade, which matters if you're visiting during one of those rare heatwaves. Autumn's the best time, when the colour changes the whole mood of the place.

Walkers will get the most from this - bring proper boots if there's been rain, as the paths get muddy. Kids don't tend to stay engaged for longer than an hour unless you're into spotting birds or bugs. There's no cafe, no facilities, no admission charge that we can find - just woodland access.

If you're staying at Marsh Farm Caravan Site or Yellowtail Camping nearby, it's worth incorporating into a morning walk. It pairs well with a visit to Trowbridge itself if you want markets or tea shops. Not a destination in itself, but exactly what you need when you want a proper forest walk without driving miles.
