Lady’s Tower

You'll spot Lady's Tower long before you reach it - a squat, circular stone structure standing alone on the rocky foreshore near Leven, impossible to miss when the tide's out. Built in the 1760s, it's one of those Scottish coastal oddities with a proper story behind it. A local laird's daughter used it as a bathing house, apparently, and the tower became a landmark for fishermen navigating these waters.

It's a straightforward walk from Leven seafront to get there, depending on tides. The structure itself is modest but atmospheric - you can't go inside, but it's brilliant for photos, especially when the light's right in the late afternoon. The rocks around it are slippery when wet, so decent shoes matter. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour, though you could easily stretch it to an hour if you're the type to sit and watch the Firth.

This works well as part of a coastal amble if you're staying at Elie Holiday Park or Catchpenny Safari Lodges nearby. It's the kind of thing that rewards a detour rather than demanding one - not a major pull on its own, but exactly the sort of genuine, unglamorous bit of Scottish history that makes a seaside walk memorable. Families with older kids will get more from it than toddlers; teenagers might find it mildly interesting if the light's dramatic enough. The surrounding coast has proper charm without being overworked by tourism.
