Lagfold Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination, Lagfold Copse sits just outside Cranleigh and gives you that deep-forest feeling without needing a map or a four-hour commitment. The trees here are old enough to take seriously - tall oaks and established conifers creating the sort of dappled light that makes you forget about your phone for a bit. Walking through feels genuinely quiet, which is rare this close to Surrey towns.

It's best for people who actually like woods rather than those wanting a café at the end of it. No facilities, no car park to speak of, no information boards telling you what you're looking at. That's part of the appeal, frankly. The paths are straightforward enough - muddy in winter, pleasant enough in summer - and you can be in and out in 45 minutes or take longer if you're the type to stop and listen. Kids will either love the freedom or get bored quickly depending on their tolerance for "just trees."
