Lampit Bach Beach

You'll find Lampit Bach Beach just outside Fishguard, tucked into the Pembrokeshire coastline where the cliffs drop down to a modest sandy cove. It's the sort of place locals know about and visitors often miss - no car park, no facilities, just genuine beach. The walk down is steep enough to make your calves work on the way back up, but once you're there, the effort pays off. The beach itself is quiet, backed by dramatic rocky outcrops that give you that proper Welsh coastal feel without the crowds you'd get at Tenby or Saundersfoot. Low tide reveals pools worth exploring if you're into that sort of thing, and the cliffs either side are genuinely impressive.

Walkers will appreciate this more than families with small children - the access is rough and there's nowhere to sit about eating ice cream. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Fishguard Holiday Park or Tregroes, it's an easy morning trip. Give yourself an hour for a proper poke around, longer if you want to sit and read. Spring and early summer are best; winter storms churn it up and access can be tricky. The beach won't be for everyone - it demands a bit of effort and has zero creature comforts - but that's precisely why it's worth the walk. When the rest of Pembrokeshire is rammed with caravans and day-trippers, you might well have this stretch of sand to yourself.
