Landbeach Woods

Walking into Landbeach Woods feels like stepping properly off the beaten track, even though it's barely four miles from Cambridge city centre. This is ancient woodland - the kind where you actually notice the quiet, where the canopy does real work keeping the drizzle off. The paths wind through mixed broadleaf forest, mostly beech and oak, with enough undergrowth to make you feel genuinely away from things despite being close enough to pop into the city for lunch.

It's the sort of place where walkers get the most from it - a proper woodland ramble rather than a quick circuit. Families with older kids who don't need constant entertainment will find it decent, though there's no playground or facilities to speak of. Bring a decent map or use your phone; the trails can feel a bit samey if you're not paying attention. Allow a good hour minimum, though two or three is more worthwhile.

The whole area is ripe for combining with a woodland campsite stay.
