Langennith, Llanmadoc and Cheriton Community Council

Three villages rolled into one community council area might sound bureaucratic, but the viewpoints across this stretch of the Gower Peninsula are anything but dull. From the elevated spots around Llanmadoc and Cheriton, you get proper sweeping views across Burry Inlet and the salt marshes that fringe this quieter corner of Gower.

The real draw here is Whiteford Burrows and the lighthouse views - on a clear day you can see right across to the Carmarthenshire coast. It's a bit of a trek to reach the best vantage points, mind you, with sandy paths that'll have you trudging through dunes for the better part of an hour.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most from this area. The mudflats teem with waders at low tide, and the sense of space is quite something after the busier beaches further south. Families might find it heavy going with younger children - there's not much here beyond the views and wildlife.

From nearby holiday parks like Hillend Camping or Gower Farm Touring, it makes a decent day out if you're after something different from the usual Gower beach routine. Pack a flask though - facilities are thin on the ground once you're out on the marshes.
