Linn Jaw [Waterfall]

The walk to Linn Jaw is deceptively short but absolutely worth the effort. You're looking at about fifteen minutes from the car park near Newbridge, heading through woodland that opens suddenly onto a proper gorge - sheer rock walls either side with a waterfall thundering down into a dark pool below. The water's a murky brown after rain, which is when it's actually most impressive. In dry spells it's a trickle, honestly.

This is a cracking spot for anyone who likes a bit of geology. The falls themselves aren't dramatic in the way Scottish waterfalls can be, but the canyon setting is genuinely striking - the Almond Water has cut right through the landscape over centuries. Kids will find it interesting for about half an hour, maybe forty minutes if you're lucky and they're into scrambling around on rocks.

The path down is steep and can be slippery, so decent footwear is essential. There's no charge, no facilities, no visitor centre - it's just nature and a decent walk. Allow an hour if you're taking photos and having a proper look around. Best visited in autumn or spring when you get both water flow and decent light.

Linwater Caravan Park is only a few miles away, making this an easy addition to a park-based holiday. It's close enough for a morning outing without eating into the day, and the woodland walk counts as proper exercise even if the waterfall itself only takes minutes to see.
