Little Furner Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Bethersden, Little Furner Wood is the sort of place you'd stumble upon by accident and be genuinely glad you did. It's nothing fancy - just dense Kent forest with good paths that loop through beech and oak, the kind of place where you actually feel like you've left civilization behind despite being minutes from the village.

The woodland itself is peaceful rather than spectacular. You won't find dramatic viewpoints or rare birds, but that's partly the point. It's ideal for families wanting a gentle hour's ramble without the crowds of bigger attractions, and walkers appreciate it as a solid leg-stretcher that doesn't demand map-reading skills. The paths are clear enough, though they can get muddy after rain - standard English woodland conditions.

Better still, it costs nothing and you can turn up whenever you fancy. No gates, no opening hours nonsense. Give yourself 60 to 90 minutes depending on how slowly you wander and whether you sit about watching the light filter through the canopy.

If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Longberry Farm or Wildside Camping are both under two miles away - this makes an easy morning or late afternoon outing while the weather's decent. It won't be the highlight of a Kent holiday, but it's a cracking spot for breaking up campsite time without having to pack the car.
