Little Hurst Wood

The woodland around Little Hurst Wood, just outside Faversham, is proper quiet - the kind of place where you can actually hear birdsong without the constant hum of traffic. It's mostly beech and oak, with a decent network of footpaths that wind through without any fussy signposting. Nothing flashy, just straightforward forest walking.

What you get here is space and relative solitude. The paths are manageable, ranging from gentle woodland strolls to slightly more demanding terrain depending on which routes you take. It's ideal if you want to tire out the kids without having to queue for car parks or navigate through crowds. Walkers will find it genuinely rewarding - the trees create proper shade, so even on warmer days it stays cool.

The real appeal is how close it sits to Faversham itself. If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Mount Ephraim or Painters Farm are both within five miles - this becomes your obvious choice for a morning walk before heading into town for lunch. It's the kind of place that justifies a half-day exploration rather than a full commitment.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, which suits the woods fine. Go early if you want solitude, and bring proper footwear because the ground can be muddy after rain. Aim for a couple of hours, though you can extend it if you're feeling keen. Free access, naturally. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but that's rather the point - sometimes a proper forest walk is exactly what a holiday needs.
