Little Wood

A small woodland patch just outside Alton that feels proper peaceful once you're in among the trees. It's the sort of place where you can actually hear birdsong without the rumble of the A31 intruding - though you're close enough to town that it's no wilderness expedition.

The walks are gentle and straightforward, nothing demanding. Families with younger kids will manage fine, and it's dog-friendly territory if your four-legged crew needs a run around. The whole thing doesn't take hours - reckon on half an hour to forty minutes for a decent circuit - so it works well as a morning outing or afternoon stretch of the legs rather than a full day's commitment.

Worth knowing upfront: this isn't woodland with dramatic views or ancient ruins tucked away. It's green, quiet, and satisfying in an understated way. Good for resetting your head after time in a car, and perfect if you're staying at Wigwam Holidays or Feather Down Manor Farm nearby and want something low-key without driving far.

Best visited in spring when the whole place feels fresher, though autumn has its appeal too if you don't mind damp underfoot. Summer can feel a bit muggy and crowded with insects.

If you're thinking it sounds a touch basic - you wouldn't be wrong. But sometimes basic is exactly what you need.
