Llwyn Bonc

The forest wraps round you almost before you've realised you've entered it. Llwyn Bonc sits just inland from the Anglesey coast, a proper woodland escape that feels genuinely removed from the usual seaside tourist trail despite being minutes from Llanfairpwllgwyngyll.

It's straightforward stuff - woodland walks through dense trees, plenty of shade, the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think. The forest floor is soft underfoot and there are proper paths to follow, nothing too demanding. You're looking at an hour or so for a decent wander, maybe ninety minutes if you take your time and explore the quieter sections.

This works best for walkers after genuine peace rather than cafes and facilities. Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after a bit - it's trees, more trees, then trees again. But if you're the type who actually enjoys being in a forest rather than just near one, you'll appreciate the tranquillity here. No crowds, no obvious commercialisation, just woodland as it should be.

If you're based at Tŷ Croes Farm & Vineyard Campsite up the road, this is an excellent morning or afternoon leg-stretcher that won't eat your whole day. Free to wander, naturally - there's no gatehouse or visitor centre nonsense. Best visited when it's dry underfoot, mind you. October through April can get properly boggy.
