Lodge Hill

Climbing this North Downs summit feels more like a proper countryside ramble than a mountain conquest, but the views from the top are surprisingly rewarding. Lodge Hill stands at 236 metres above the Surrey countryside, offering sweeping vistas across the Weald to the South Downs beyond.

Walkers will find several routes to the top, with the most pleasant approach coming from Tadworth village. The climb is gentle enough for families with older children, though the final stretch can get muddy in winter. It's free to access, naturally, and you'll want to allow about two hours for a leisurely round trip.

From the summit, you can spot Box Hill to the east and on clear days, the distant outline of the South Downs. It's not the most dramatic peak in Surrey - that honour goes to Leith Hill - but it's a cracking spot for a picnic and proper fresh air.

The hill sits perfectly positioned for exploring the wider North Downs Way, and it's close enough to Norbury Park and other local attractions to build a proper walking itinerary.
