Long Croft

You could easily miss Long Croft if you're just passing through Faversham, but that would be a shame. This woodland sit tucked away from the main roads, the sort of place where you actually hear birdsong instead of traffic. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy proper dense, and the walking is straightforward enough for families with kids who don't mind uneven ground.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of - you're just walking through trees, which is exactly the point. Allow an hour to meander through without rushing, longer if you're keen on spotting woodland birds or photographing the light filtering through the branches. Autumn is when it's at its best, with bracken turning russet and the ground carpeted in fallen leaves. Spring brings bluebells if you time it right.

This isn't a destination in itself, but it works brilliantly as part of a wider ramble around North Kent. Pair it with a stay at Painters Farm Camping Site or Chegworth Mill Glamping - both within easy reach - and you've got a proper little woodland retreat on your doorstep. Kids will get two, maybe three hours out of it before they're ready for something else, so don't bank your entire day here. What you do get is peace and quiet, which feels increasingly rare. Sometimes that's enough.
