Long Firs

The woods around Long Firs, just outside Chipping Norton, are the sort of place you wander into expecting a quick twenty-minute loop and somehow emerge two hours later wondering where the time went. It's proper forest - dense canopy, leaf litter underfoot, the kind of walk where your phone signal drops and you remember why people bothered with maps before GPS.

There's nothing flashy about it. No visitor centre, no car park attendant, no interpretation boards telling you which tree is which. You just walk in among the conifers and broadleaf mix, following paths that feel well-used enough to trust. The forest floor is soft, which is lovely if you're after an easy pace but less impressive if you're hoping for dramatic views - there aren't any. This is about atmosphere rather than spectacle.

Families with primary-school kids will get decent value from a couple of hours here, though teenagers might find it a bit samey. Walkers heading out from Chipping Norton will appreciate the accessible woodland trails without needing to commit to a full day. It's genuinely quiet, which counts for something if you're trying to escape.
