Long Walk

The Long Walk cuts through Leicestershire's countryside like a proper ribbon of green, and it's one of those walks that rewards you without demanding much in return. You're moving through mixed woodland - nothing dramatic, just solid English forest with decent tree cover and enough space to actually breathe. The path itself is well-maintained, which means it's accessible for most people rather than a bog-scramble affair.

It's genuinely good for families who want an hour or two of fresh air without overthinking it. Kids won't complain about the terrain, and there's enough woodland interest to keep them engaged - the occasional clearing, proper trees to look at, that sort of thing. Serious walkers might find it a touch gentle, but that doesn't make it a waste of your time. Sometimes a straightforward forest walk is exactly what you need.

Leicester's close by if you're basing yourself nearby, and it slots nicely into a wider park holiday. Valley View Escapes sits just 3.4 miles away and genuinely gets top marks from guests, so you could do the walk in the morning and still have time to settle in properly. The other parks - Holly Farm Fishery and Fox's Furrow - are within five or six miles, so you've got flexibility depending on what kind of base suits you.

Timing-wise, give yourself 60 to 90 minutes without rushing. Go when it's not waterlogged - autumn's lovely here, and so is spring when things are pushing through. Nothing fancy, no admission fee nonsense as far as I can tell, just a solid woodland walk that does what it says on the tin.
