Long Wood

The woodland around Market Rasen isn't dramatic, but Long Wood has a quiet appeal that grows on you. It's proper old-school Lincolnshire - mixed deciduous trees, decent paths, and the kind of place where you'll actually hear birdsong instead of traffic.

What you get is a straightforward forest walk. Nothing exotic, no waterfalls or clifftop views, just solid woodland with enough shade to make a summer afternoon bearable. The paths are manageable, suitable for families who don't mind a bit of mud, and it's the sort of spot where older kids can burn off energy without you losing sight of them.

This works best if you're staying at Station Farm or Wolds View - both are practically on your doorstep - rather than driving in specially from further afield. You're looking at maybe 45 minutes to an hour for a decent wander, depending on how many photo stops you make. Free admission, no facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need.

Will it blow your mind? No. But if you're camping locally and after a decent forest leg-stretch without crowds, it does the job. The Lincolnshire Wolds aren't known for dramatic woodland scenery, and Long Wood knows its place - it's a working part of the landscape rather than a destination in itself. Worth incorporating into a morning before heading to market or exploring other bits of the Wolds, rather than making it your main event.
