Longmead Plantation

You won't find crowds at Longmead Plantation, which is rather the point. This woodland sits quietly in the Oxfordshire countryside near Botswicky Copse, offering proper forest walking without the tourist infrastructure. The trees here are thick enough that even on bright days you get that cool, filtered light that makes you actually want to linger.

It's straightforward stuff - paths through mixed woodland, the kind of place where you notice things. Birdsong matters here. So do mushrooms in autumn and the occasional deer slipping between the trunks. There's no visitor centre, no cafe, none of that. You show up, walk, and that's it. Walkers will get the most from it, especially those after a two-hour loop rather than a full day's commitment. Families with young kids might find it a bit samey after 45 minutes, though that depends entirely on whether your children are the type to notice badger setts.

The nearest town is Botswicky Copse, though honestly there's not much there beyond what you need. If you're staying at Nordic Glamping at Botswicky or Evelyns Garden Glamping, both within five miles, this makes a proper morning walk before settling back for lunch. Faringdon Grange is further out but still accessible. No admission charges that we can determine, and you can come and go as you please. Best visited when the ground isn't sodden - Oxfordshire clay holds water stubbornly - and early morning if you're hoping for wildlife.
