About Long's Wood
This is a walker's wood more than anything else. There are trails threading through, though they're unmarked and you'll need to know what you're doing or have decent navigation. A solid couple of hours will get you lost in it - and that's the point. Families with young kids might find it a bit much if they're expecting somewhere with benches and an ice cream van, but older children who don't mind muddy boots will love it.
It's free to access as far as I can tell, though it's worth respecting it as working woodland - keep to established paths and don't go ripping branches about. The place feels properly wild, which is rare so close to a town.
Stay at Woodlands Camping or Hampshire Hills just down the road and you've got a genuine escape. It pairs well with walks around Alresford itself. Long's Wood won't take your whole day, but it's the sort of place that reminds you why you drove south in the first place.
