Lower Town Woodland Walk

A proper woodland walk tucked just outside Fishguard, Lower Town Woodland offers exactly what it says on the tin - a chance to stretch your legs through native Welsh woodland without having to trek for hours. The path winds through mixed deciduous trees, and if you time it right, you'll catch bluebells in spring or a decent display of fungi after wet weather.

It's the sort of walk that families with younger kids can manage comfortably, taking maybe 45 minutes to an hour at a leisurely pace. No dramatic viewpoints or ancient monuments here, but that's rather the point. The quiet does something to your head after a day of seaside crowds in Fishguard town itself.

The walk works brilliantly as a mid-morning break if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Fishguard Holiday Park is barely half a mile away, and Tregroes Caravan Camping & Glamping Park only slightly further. Pop down after breakfast, blow off some steam, then head into Fishguard proper for lunch without feeling like you've missed anything.

Best visited outside school holidays when you won't be swimming upstream against other families. Free to access, naturally. Wear proper shoes if it's been rainy - the woodland floor gets boggy in places and tree roots are unforgiving.
