Luss Bypass

The A82 slips past Luss with a modern bypass that most drivers blast through without a second glance. But if you're staying at Milarrochy Bay or Inverbeg Holiday Park nearby, it's worth understanding what this stretch represents - a piece of infrastructure that actually worked in favour of the village below.

Luss itself sits on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond, and the bypass (completed to keep through-traffic away from the village centre) means you can now wander the main street without constant lorries thundering past. The village has that postcard quality - white-painted cottages, a proper wee church, and the loch sprawling out beyond. If you're based at one of the caravan parks, you're minutes away from this.

The bypass isn't a destination in itself - there's nothing to stop and photograph. But it's the infrastructure that makes Luss actually liveable and visitable. The village is free to explore and takes maybe an hour to wander properly, longer if you grab lunch at one of the pubs. The loch views from the foreshore are genuine. Head up early in the day to avoid the tour coach crowds that descend from Glasgow.

For caravan park visitors, Luss breaks up a holiday nicely. It's close enough for an afternoon trip, far enough away that you're not just doing the campsite amenities. Walk down to the water, poke around the shops, grab a bite. It's solid value for time spent.
