Lyce's Coppice

A proper woodland walk through ancient coppice woodland, Lyce's Coppice sits near Malvern and rewards those who venture off the beaten track. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter and moss, and in spring the bluebells are genuinely worth the trip. You're walking through trees that have been coppiced for centuries - that traditional woodland management where you cut them back and let them regenerate - so the structure of the forest feels different from your typical dense plantation.

This isn't a manicured nature reserve with visitor facilities. Bring proper boots because it gets muddy, especially after rain. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to actually explore rather than just walk through. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it a bit samey after the first half hour, to be honest.

The nearest substantial town is Malvern, which gives you access to decent cafes and pubs afterwards. If you're staying at either Pelerine Caravan & Camping Site or Cwtch Cabins & Camping, you're within easy driving distance - both are well-rated spots for a Gloucestershire base. The coppice works best as part of a wider rambling day rather than a standalone destination. Pair it with a walk up the Malvern Hills nearby for a proper day out. Free to access, no charges that I'm aware of, and the peace and quiet is genuine.
