Magic Roundabout

Five roundabouts arranged in a circle - that's the Magic Roundabout near Swindon, and yes, it's exactly as mental as it sounds. Drivers go round a large central roundabout anticlockwise while simultaneously navigating five smaller roundabouts, also anticlockwise, around the perimeter. It shouldn't work. Somehow it does, though the first time you encounter it can be genuinely unnerving.

As a visitor attraction, it's more curiosity than destination. You don't pay to enter - it's just there, causing traffic and amusement in equal measure. Best viewed from the pedestrian path if you want photos without the stress of actually driving it. The whole thing takes ten minutes to appreciate properly, fifteen if you're waiting for the light to turn green and want to see how locals handle it.

It's brilliant for road-trip novelty value, especially if you're staying at Nordic Glamping at Botswicky, just a few miles away. Kids find the concept hilarious once they understand what's happening. Serious drivers will get white knuckles. History types might appreciate that it's been confusing motorists since 1972 - built as an experiment in traffic flow that somehow endured.

Don't make a special journey for it. But if you're passing through Wiltshire heading to or from the Cotswolds, stop for five minutes and have a laugh. The real magic is that nobody dies.
