Meall Buidhe

A decent hill walk rather than a proper peak bagging challenge, Meall Buidhe rises to 2,388 metres near Lochearnhead and rewards the effort with broad views across the Trossachs. The ascent takes around two hours from the glen below, climbing through moorland and rough grass that can be boggy after rain - wear proper boots. The summit itself is fairly exposed, so wind can be sharp even on what looks like a calm day. You get wide views across Loch Earn and the surrounding ridges, which makes the slog worthwhile if the weather's kind. It's not the most dramatic peak in the area, but it's far less crowded than Ben Vorlich just across the way, and the walk suits strong family groups or anyone who wants a morning out without needing ropes and experience. Allow three to four hours for the round trip depending on fitness. There's free parking near the start of the track. If you're staying at Balquhidder Braes Holiday Park just down the road, this is a cracking option for breaking up a week of easier wandering around Loch Tay Highland Lodges territory. Go early or mid-week to dodge weekenders, and time it for decent visibility - there's absolutely nothing to see if you're walking into cloud.
